Start with how the door is used
The correct door type depends on three things: how often it opens, how much space you have, and what you are moving through it.
Sliding doors
Sliding doors move sideways along a track, so they do not need clearance space to swing. They are the standard choice for:
- Busy loading areas and high-traffic openings
- Wide openings for pallets and forklifts
- Areas where a swinging door would block traffic
They come in manual and electric (motorised) versions; electric sliding doors open automatically for forklifts and improve energy efficiency in high-traffic cold stores.
Hinged doors
Hinged doors swing open on hinges. They are simple, economical and ideal for smaller openings, walk-in cold rooms and low-traffic access points. Single and double-leaf versions are available.
Quick comparison
- High traffic / forklifts β electric sliding door
- Medium traffic, medium opening β manual sliding door
- Low traffic, small opening β hinged door
- Very high traffic β high-speed roller or impact door
